News
Today is a very special day. One that can only be celebrated one way. Sit in a comfortable armchair with some earl grey tea, and read Edgar Allan Poe late into the night.
You might be thinking "What makes that different then every other day?" well my friend, today is the day that one of the greatest writer and poet was born. Today marks the birthday of Edgar Allan Poe.
To me this day is just as important as is Christmas to Christians.
Poe is 199 years old, and 159 years dead. Rest in peace Poe.
Below is a short biography of the man behind the greatest tales of suspense, mystery, horror, humour, satire, poetry, and even one play.
Edgar Allan Poe
(January 19, 1809 October 7, 1849)
Edgar Allan Poe was born at 33 Hollis Street, Boston, Mass., on January 19, 1809, the son of poverty stricken actors, David, and Elizabeth (born Arnold) Poe. His parents were then filling an engagement in a Boston theatre, and the appearances of both, together with their sojourns in various places during their wandering careers, are to be plainly traced in the play bills of the time.

The Gothic Poem Contest
This weeks contest starts on January 14th, Monday, and ends on January 21st, Monday.
The contests is to see who can write the darkest, most emotional, most touching, most beautiful, and most Gothic poem.
It should be something like Poe or Baudelaire would write.
RULES:
1. Please use proper grammar (how I despise in-proper grammar.)
2. Please use correct spelling.
3. For a better chance of winning, use high words. A thesaurus might help.
4. The poem does not have to rhyme.
5. No blood, violence, gore, or bad language. (Did you ever see Poe use a swear word?)
6. Do NOT steal other poets work.
7. The poem should be dark, but it isn't necessary.
8. You cannot send more than three poems for the contest.
Submitting Poetry
1.If you are a member of the club, all that you submit will be put into the gallery at the end of the week. (If it is acceptable.)
2.Send a note to the club with the subject "Contest", and the poem in the letter.
Prize
Your name shall be in the journal's special list for three weeks.
Special List

This weeks poem is by Edgar Allan Poe(1809-1849).
A Dream Within A Dream
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

...Buried in a sweet decay...
Now were shadows of blood
Seeking place, seeking for love
Condemned to be separated forever
Buried in the tomb of our own desire...
...Dors, dors, petit ange, et reve de la mort...
